In a demonstration of high operational readiness, the Misurata Free Zone deployed its marine fleet to respond to a maritime incident involving the Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz. On March 24, 2026, the tug Al-Samida began operations, followed by the modern tug Misrata on March 25, as part of a coordinated effort within Libya’s territorial waters off the western coast.
Coordinated Operations and Swift Response
The deployment of both tugs aimed to secure the distressed carrier and tow it to a safe location, mitigating potential risks given the sensitive nature of its cargo. The operation highlighted advanced coordination between naval units and operations centers, ensuring efficient and timely execution.
